Mission
The mission of the GENECureFUND is to support the training of the next generation of scientific investigators who will make future biomedical discoveries leading to disease cures. Biomedical research is expensive and is not solely supportable by existing funding mechanisms. Thus, achieving the objective of curing human disease is greatly enhanced by public donation and philanthropic participation. It is our hope that the people of Baltimore and of the State of Maryland will be generous in helping achieve our research mission.
Examples of research supported by the fund include the following. GENECureFUND research seeks to understand how human cells repair DNA damage. This is particularly important because our cells are challenged by damaging stress on a daily basis and the resulting damage can lead to cancer and premature aging. Remarkable, our cells are designed to repair this damage and our goal is to understand how this repair can be enhanced and what can be done when it fails. GENECureFUND scientists also seek to understand how natural dietary agents called antioxidants, which are components of a healthy diet, act to prevent diseases including cancer. GENECureFUND also supports studies designed to enhance tissue repair and healing using stem cell technology.
